Twentysix Gasoline Stations, 1963
National Exelsior-published book
First edition, signed by the artist
Twentysix Gasoline Stations is widely-credited as being the defining artist's book of the modern era and is considered seminal in the history of contemporary art. It only cost $3 at release in 1963 and so a lot have been lost and damaged over the years. It is truly a museum quality piece of art history.

The Death and Disaster series ranks amongst Warhol's most controversial and thought-provoking projects in a uniquely Warholian manner. The way in which Warhol has posited what is fundamentally a factory-produced tool of death fabricated by the same industrial system of mass production that produced Campbell soup cans, Coke bottles and 'the celebrity' is superb. The American consumer capitalist culture that we call the 'American Dream' has a darker side to it, and Warhol simply wasn't going to let us forget that.
